Glossary

Interface terms

/ Activity: Action to be carried out, dated and assigned to a user, attached to a document.

/ Agent: Assistant configured for a specific use, with its instructions, its skills, which determine the tools it may use, and its sources, which bound the data it refers to.

/ AI Field: Field whose value is computed by the intelligent assistant from an instruction and the context of the record, then written automatically onto the records concerned.

/ App: Main module adding a complete functional area: Sales, CRM, Inventory, Accounting.

/ Breadcrumb: Path shown at the top of the screen, retracing the navigation and allowing you to go back without losing the context.

/ Chatter: Area at the bottom of a document, gathering the messages, the internal notes, the activities and the history of tracked changes.

/ Command palette: Universal search bar opened with Ctrl + K, giving access to the applications and menus, to the conversations (people and channels), to the knowledge articles and to the assistant.

/ Favorite: Saved search (filters, groupings, sorting) reusable and shareable.

/ Filter: Condition restricting the records displayed.

/ Kanban: View presenting the records as cards spread across columns, movable by drag and drop.

/ Offline: State signalled in the top bar when the link with the server is lost. The screens already consulted stay reachable, and the entry made during the outage is sent to the server as soon as the connection comes back.

/ Partner: Generic term for a third party: customer, vendor, prospect, subcontractor.

/ Pivot table: Two-way analysis view, crossing two criteria and displaying one or more measures.

/ Portal: Simplified interface giving an external third party access to their own documents only, without consuming a user licence.

/ Property field: Field added to a record without modifying the data model, defined at the level of a parent record and available on its children.

/ Smart button: Button at the top right of a form, giving access to the linked documents and showing a counter.

/ View: Way of representing data: list, form, kanban, calendar, graph, pivot, Gantt, cohort, activity.

Business terms

/ Aged balance: Statement presenting receivables or payables classified by age.

/ Backorder: Transfer carrying the quantities left to deliver or to receive after a partial operation. On validation, Odoo asks whether to create it; the operation type can be set to create it systematically, or never.

/ Bill of materials: List of the components and operations needed to manufacture a product.

/ Credit note: Document cancelling all or part of an invoice already issued.

/ Fiscal position: Set of rules adapting the taxes and accounts to a third party's tax regime.

/ Lead: Incoming contact not yet qualified, liable to become an opportunity.

/ Lot: Group of units of a product sharing the same origin, tracked for traceability.

/ Matching: Reconciliation of journal items that offset each other, allowing a partner account to be cleared.

/ Milestone: Approval step in a project, associated with a target date and sometimes with an invoicing instalment.

/ Opportunity: Identified business deal, tracked in the pipeline until it is concluded.

/ Pipeline: Representation of the deals in progress, spread by stage of advancement.

/ Pricelist: Set of rules determining the price applied according to the customer, the quantity, the period or the product.

/ Quotation: Priced commercial proposal, which becomes an order once confirmed.

/ Route: Supply path of a product: buy, manufacture, replenish on order, resupply a subcontractor.

/ Subcontracting: Entrusting a third party with the transformation of supplied components, the resulting product being received as a purchase.

/ Work in progress: Value of the components consumed and the time spent on a manufacturing order not yet completed, recognised in the accounts by a work-in-progress entry.

Configuration terms

/ API: Interface allowing an external system to read and write in the database.

/ Automation rule: Process triggered by an event occurring on a document, subject to conditions.

/ Developer mode: Mode giving access to the technical settings: fields, views, access rules, automations.

/ Module: Extension adding features. An app is a main module.

/ PostgreSQL: Database management system on which Odoo relies. The name will be useful to you when talking to your host, notably about the prerequisites of intelligent assistance.

/ Scheduled action: Process executed at regular intervals, independently of any user action.

/ Server action: Configured process performing an operation on one or more records.

/ Studio: Code-free customisation tool (fields, views, reports, automations) available in the Enterprise edition.

/ Webhook: Dedicated address allowing an external system to trigger a process in Odoo.
